Jürgen Schmidhuber
a German computer scientist widely recognized for his pioneering work in artificial neural networks and deep learning. He is best known for co‑inventing the Long Short‑Term Memory (LSTM) architecture with Sepp Hochreiter, a breakthrough that became foundational for speech recognition, machine translation, and many other AI applications. As Scientific Director of the Swiss AI Lab IDSIA and a professor at KAUST, he has also contributed to meta‑learning, artificial curiosity, and the theoretical foundations of creativity and intelligence. In 2014, he co‑founded NNAISENSE, aiming to build large‑scale, general‑purpose AI systems for industrial and commercial use.
